Kenya--Death Toll over 1000

"NAIROBI, Kenya (CNN) -- The death toll from post-election violence in Kenya climbed to more than 1000 Tuesday as government and opposition politicians discussed plans that could eventually lead to a power-sharing agreement."

I normally don't like to get "heavy" on here but the violence is continuing. The country of Kenya has been one of the most stable countries in Africa, but the post-election violence has continued to escalate. As many of you know, I was in Nairobi and Lake Nakuru last year for 14 days on a mission trip. I had the opprotunity to meet so many of the wonderful people there. Get to know them, know their stories, and know their hearts. I still communicate with some of my friends from Nairobi. So, I read these headlines and it strikes me harder than some.

So often, me included, we tend to become numb to all of the news that is thrown at us daily. I just wanted to show some of the people and children of Kenya who are living with this violence. The people in these images live in Mathare Valley which is a gigantic slum in Nairobi and this is one of the many areas where there has been horrific tribal violence.

Not to be over-dramatic, but some of these people may be one of those 1000 victims.
We are going back to Kenya in 2009 and hopefully we will see all of these children again.
The people of Kenya are so very good, but poverty is so great and where there is poverty and great need there is also the potential for great violence, anger, and hatred.

Please pray for the people of Kenya, their leaders, and that there will be an end real soon to this massive upheaval in their country. Print out any of these pictures you might like, stick them in your Bible, on a mirror, or lay them on your bedside table so that you will remember to pray for these dear souls.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
daryl
